Fighting alcohol-related harm is a goal shared by all

In advance of voting on the Motion for a Resolution on the Alcohol Strategy on 3 April, we invite all MEPs to consider that the existing (and still ongoing!) EU Strategyhas been very positively evaluated and that it represents a balanced approach to reducing alcohol-related harm since:

  • It focuses on alcohol misuse
  • It involves all relevant stakeholders
  • It promotes consumer information and targeted interventions to address risky drinking behaviours.

We sincerely hope the EP Motion will call for a continued and strengthened EU Strategy to support Member States in reducing alcohol related harm.

On this occasion, it is worth recapping some of the initiatives launched by the European spirits sector to reduce alcohol-related harm:

  • 317 initiatives all across Europe - measured and evaluated - created since 2007: www.drinksinitiatives.eu
  • Consumer campaigns to inform, educate and raise awareness on the impact of harmful and hazardous consumption, and on appropriate consumption patterns: www.responsibledrinking.eu
  • Interactive training sessions on the standards applicable to spirits marketing communications: www.marketresponsibly.eu
